Manchester United news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be brave and drop David de Gea, says Sam Allardyce on talkSPORT
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to be brave and drop David de Gea from the first-team after the goalkeepers recent blunders.Sam Allardyce believes giving the Spaniard a break would be in the best interest of the team and the player himself, to regain his confidence after an uncharacteristic shaky spell.David de Gea is enduring a tough time in goal2
David de Gea is enduring a tough time in goal
De Gea has faced criticism after making three errors which have led directly to goals in his last four game, against Barcelona, Manchester City and most recently Chelsea, although he still has Solskjaers backing. The goalkeepers long-term future at the club is uncertain. United are eager to tie the 28-year-old down to a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2020, so dropping him from the team may not be seen as a viable option for the clubs hierarchy if they want to keep him happy. But Allardyce believes its the best decision for the team and has challenged Solskjaer to make the right call. Id take him [De Gea] out for his own benefit, said Big Sam on Tuesdays Sports Breakfast. When a goalkeepers confidence is shot, then enough is enough. You have to be brave as a manager, sit the player down and explain the reasons why youre going to give him a break, so he can get his confidence back.Theyve got a fantastic second goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, who is outstanding and more than capable of stepping in and doing a fantastic job.If Solskjaer persists to put De Gea in goal and he makes another mistake, it becomes the managers fault.Solskjaer has a decision to make about De Gea2
Solskjaer has a decision to make about De Gea
Ive done it a few times I had to leave out Jussi Jaaskelainen at Bolton many years ago when he was struggling a little bit, one or two shots were going in far too easily and I had to put Kevin Poole in, he was 38 at the time which was a big risk for me, but Jussi had a couple of games out, then came back and was fine again. It was a big one. Its a decision a manager doesnt want to make, but its why youre the manager. Youve got to be brave and youve got to say this is the right thing to do for the team.Manchester United ahve got to find the right solution, because De Gea going to get his confidence back and hes going to be just as good a goalkeeper as he was before. But if you continue to let him makes those mistakes, it becomes your fault as a manager for not taking action and leaving him in the side.

The right-back is one player you should definitely consider this week. He had some rest against Arsenal when the Hornets chose to push forward and in the second half by bringing on Isaac Success and like Gray has two decent fixtures. An assist against either will be the icing on the cake to any clean sheets.
