He is affectionately known as “King Kenny” by Liverpool fans due to his successful playing and managerial spells at the club. He also won the Premier League title as Blackburn boss in the 1994/95 campaign.Sir Kenny also received the honour for his help during the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster and the charity work he has done alongside his wife, Marina, which has helped raise more than 10million to help treat cancer. He said: “The football was something that you looked forward to and you wanted to do it and you were lucky that you got that far and made that much success.“Then you move on in your life, and life for me is all about helping people.”Sir Kenny paid tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster after receiving the honourSky Sports3

Sir Kenny also said the victims of the Hillsborough disaster were in his thoughts. He added: “They also stood beside us many, many times. We only did for them what I would expect you to do for somebody.“They helped us on many occasions, unfortunately it was in better circumstances, maybe during a game, so when their time came it was not much to ask, that we could turn into being the supporter.“It just came naturally to everybody. We never did it for any outside accolades. We did it because we thought it was right.”The day also saw Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe awarded an OBE for services to his foundation.Defoe formed a strong bond with Bradley Lowery while playing for Sunderland, with the little boy repeatedly being picked as a mascot for the Black Cats while he battled neuroblastoma. And the striker dedicated the award to Bradley, who died in July 2017, aged six.Defoe said:“I would love to dedicate this amazing day, this OBE to my little friend Bradley, everyone knows the relationship I had with Bradley. I’ve got this for the Jermain Defoe Foundation but above all of that I think it’s the relationship I had with him that was special.Defoe dedicated his OBE to Bradley Lowery3

“You never expect to receive any award, so to receive something like this, of course it still hurts.“I’ve got some great memories of Bradley, but to receive something like this today, it makes me feel good.”
