Brazil Copa America kit: South Americans to launch white Nike shirt to celebrate 100th anniversary of winning the title
Brazil are set to launch a brand new away shirt in their quest to capture the Copa America trophy for the first time since 2007.The five-time world champions boast one of the most iconic uniforms in football, with their signature yellow and green instantly recognisable, while their blue away kit is worn less frequently.2

Brazil have traditionally used blue for their away colours

The shirt will celebrate 100 years since they first won the title in 1919.However, for the tournament, which will be staged in Brazil this summer, the host nation are set to release two retro inspired shirts, with the away colours primarily white, complete with blue trim. These were in fact Brazil’s home colours, up until 1950. That year, they were beaten 2-1 by Uruguay in the World Cup final and the shirt was slammed by the country’s sporting federation for being ‘unpatriotic’.Eventually, a competition took place to redesign the shirt, with the only rules being to include the national colours. Aldyr Garcia Schlee, a newspaper illustrator, won it, meaning his entry was worn for the first time against Chile in March 1954.Nike appear to have budged from their vaporknit template and are set to create more bespoke designs for their top national and club teams.2
